Aipeng Jian et al. proposed a method to decide an optimal schedule of membrane cleaning and replacement for spiral-wound SWRO (seawater reverse osmosis) system. In this paper, research group formulated the optimization problem to minimize the operating cost of the SWRO system. They considered electricity, membrane cleaning, replacement, and etc. to calculate the operating cost. The operating cost were compared depending on an influence of feed temperature and feed concentration of seawater. Through these simulations, they had come to the following conclusions: The temperature of the feed water has significant influence on optimal schedule of membrane cleaning, replacement and operating cost. The concentration of feed water has a small influence on the optimal schedule of membrane cleaning and replacement, but has a considerable effect on the optimum cost.
3. Originality & Creativity
- Aipeng Jian et al. conducted the simulation to propose optimal cleaning and replacement schedule using SWRO model.
4. Application to research
- This study has originality in that it has researched the optimal cleaning and replacement of the membrane. However, it seems to be a limitation that the simulation of constant pressure mode for SWRO has been conducted. Based on this paper, research of optimal cleaning and replacement schedule for constant permeate mode should be conducted in my study.
