2. Summary
This paper deals with the general contents and application of PLCs. In the parts of PLCs contents, paper mainly shows hardware and programming of PLCs. The PLC hardware comprises Rack assembly, Programming unit/Device/Terminal, I/O module, Central processing unit(CPU). In the programming part, Ladder code which is language used in PLC and programmable devices that are available in the industries are described. In the application parts, paper enumerates applications of PLCs such as pumping systems, motor control in water and waste water management control and energy research etc. Finally, through the comparison of PC and PLC, this paper reveals the advantages and limitations and suggests future direction of PLC.
3. Application to research
Understanding the overall contents of PLC, it is possible to understand the structure and role of PLC. In addition, the references in this paper shows the concrete contents such as fuzzy logic controller, the algorithm of water pump control.
