2. Summary

This paper was written to reveal the relationship between aquatic organisms and water physicochemical factors and select the priority for watershed restoration. SWAT is applied to model the water physicochemical factors and SVM is applied to explore the relationships between aquatic organisms and environmental indicators.

Fish is mainly affected by DO and aquatic organisms and algae are affected by nutrients. And, aquatic organisms show disparate patterns according to the sites such as upper, lower, and middle stream and time such as flood, dry, and average seasons. The organism richness is the best in the upper stream and flood season, whereas the worst in the lower stream and dry season. It means water quantity can dilute pollution. Therefore, to decide the prioritization of river restoration, it is needed to observe the entire seasons and all the streams.

 

3. Application to research

- The water quality index is mainly affected by water physicochemical factors in Korea, but it is needed to consider the biological aspects to understand the water quality comprehensively.
