2. Summary

- This paper presents both a methodology and results of laboratory measurements of remote sensing reflectance (Rrs) of several phytoplankton.

- The research presents the results of analyzing in terms of assessment of their characteristic features and the differences between each phytoplankton.

- The local maxima and minima in the reflectance spectrum and changes in the relative height of characteristic peaks with changes of phytoplankton concentration allowed to classify the phytoplankton (diatoms).

- This paper used hierarchical cluster analysis to develop a model to distinguish phytoplankton based on measured and calculated optical properties in laboratory.

3. Application to research

- The methodology to classify the species with remote sensing reflectance can be applied to classify the algae species.

- However, it is necessary to select an optimal cluster analysis that can sufficiently reflect the complexity of the water environment.

- Therefore, it is expected that the accuracy of classification will be improved if applying methodologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. In addition, a lot of data will need to be built for this.
