Dr. Gurmukh Mehta is presently a senior scientist and vice president at Science Applications International corporation (SAIC) for over 25 years. SAIC is the largest employee-owned research and engineering company in the United States, providing information technology, systems integration and eSolutions to commercial and government customers. He has been supporting US navy in development, upgrading, testing and simulation of Tomahawk Cruise Missiles for over 20 years. Besides, he is Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) International and Executive Advisor and past Chairman of the ASME Washington DC Section. 


3. Summary
 
이 논문은 PRO 논문들 중에 특히 초기 자료에 속하며, PRO 프로세스에 부정적 영향을 미치는 semi-permeable 막에서의 internal polarization에 대해서 소개하고 있다.

먼저, porous structure에서의 salt flux balance를 막을 통과하는 salt permeation flux가 0인 경우와 0이 아닌 경우로 나누어 식을 나타내었고, 삼투압을 실험변수로 변화시키면서 water permeation flux의 변화를 측정하는 방식으로 실험을 진행하였다. 

실제 측정된 water permeation flux는 salt permeation flux=0인 이론치와 달랐고, 이로써 실제 porous structure에서 internal polarization이 발생하며, 그 결과 water flux가 감소함을 알 수 있었다. 


4. Originality & Creativity

FO와 PRO에 대한 연구가 많이 진행되어 있지 않았던 시절, internal polarization의 영향에 대해 소개하고, 실험을 통해 그 영향의 정도를 비교해보았다는 것에 의의가 있다.
