2. Summary
- Anabaena blooms were characterized by very low levels of soluble inorganic N in combination with relatively high particulate N concetnrations.
- Anabaena also coincided with a relatively high underwater light availability (high ratio of euphotic depth to mixing depth)
- Aphanizomenon, in contrast, seemed much less ligh dependent and less nitrogen fixation
- The maximum specific growth rates of the nitrogen fixing strains of Aphanizomenon and Anabaena, were 67 and 80% respectively of that of NH4+ grown cell. (because of energy consumption during nitrogen fixing)
- Irrespective of the N source, the maximum specific growth rates of Anabaena is higher than that of Aphanizomenon.
3. Application to research
- The 4 major cyanobacteria species in Korea are Microcystis, Anabaena, Osciilatoria and Aphanizomenon. especially, Microcystis and Anabaena take 80% of overall cyanobacteria populations. this paper shows some evidences of Anabena dominance.
