2. Summary
This paper is a review of membrane fouling indices and monitoring technique for reverse osmosis process. In this paper, research group categorized indexes to estimate performance depending on scaling and types of fouling. In addition, research group analyzed whether each index can be calculated in real time. They discussed whether it can be applied to real time control in reverse osmosis process. After that, they summarized membrane fouling monitoring technology which is actively studied recently. Through these reviews, they had come to the following conclusions: The present fouling indices can give only limited information related to fouling. The present fouling monitoring technology is not a technique to analyze the fouling mechanism and detection time of it is too late to apply suitable control methods.
3. Originality & Creativity
- Fouling indices and monitoring techniques are reviewed.
4. Application to research
- To make a membrane fouling prediction algorithm, it is very important to know the trend of membrane monitoring technology.
